Plain & Fancy brings Palladian Panache to Custom Cabinetry

Schaefferstown, PA – Inspiration for design comes from many sources and for many, it’s travel. For others, it’s bringing back classic design from yesteryear – tried and true design elements that work to marry both function and beauty. The latest trend from Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry marries these two inspirations drawing from Spanish Colonial and South American influences to create a kitchen with panache.

These Spanish Colonial/South American influences meld with the classic and honest building principles of Andrea Palladio (who celebrates his 500th birthday this year) to create a trend referred to as “Palladian Panache” – the latest furor that takes the old world El Casa Grande and re-creates it – both advancing it with technological utility and architectural honesty but also with a sense of eclecticism and luxury.

Pennsylvanian custom cabinetmakers, Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry, have perfected this style desire for today’s homeowners with their newest inspiration, the Palladian Panache kitchen. The details of this kitchen, from the relaxing yet luxe appeal of the Paladin door with rope detail on the island, to the warm buttery Flax finish on the outer cabinets, reflects the air of a large well-proportioned mission style home with modern convenience and a casual old world appeal.

“This trend takes a cue from the Old World inspirations we’ve been seeing and gives it a fresh Spanish Colonial spin. The kitchen is warm and inviting, giving you a sense that a family would naturally gather there,” says Loretta Achey, founder and treasurer of Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry. “Our new kitchen space rejects the stuffiness of a more formal Old World kitchen and integrates modern conveniences and a larger sense of worldliness within its design.”

When it comes to travel, now more than ever, there seems to be flurry of travel to South America. Its popularity has risen for a number of reasons, particularly because of the rise of American curiosity in its rich history, architecture, environment and culture. Many travel to Argentina, Peru or Chile to witness firsthand the Spanish Colonial architecture serving as a canvas for the rich, warm, natural hues of so many of the haciendas. They go to see the intricate webs and frames of the delicate and sometimes substantial wrought iron work. In their travels they find souvenirs and design ideas which they then bring back to their homes in the states.

The essence of their travels is echoed in the warmth of this kitchen’s yellows, chocolates, and tans which are enhanced by dashes of firestone red. The Corian countertops, meant to mimic the look of creamy limestone, compliment the cabinetry, which, on the island, is a mix of Walnut with a Fireside and on the perimeter cabinetry it’s Maple with a Flax low sheen finish.

An arched enclave, detailed with rope accents gesturing to Palladio, showcases a hard-working beverage center featuring two tall pull-outs for glassware and bottles, a bar sink and a bronzed faucet all with extra refrigeration below. Above, the perfectly Palladian arch is set off by a large flat-screen TV – making this a natural gathering spot for entertaining. Dual Sub-Zero Refrigerators flank the entire refreshment center – one showcasing an Argentinean or Chilean wine collection, the other concealed by more flaxen cabinetry and set off by a strong rope-detailed iron-like handle. Twisted knobs hardware again meant to look like wrought iron, finishes the entirety of the kitchen.

Under the hood, set off with a matching Walnut Fireside apron, sits both a wrought-iron pot rack and professional Wolf gas range top. Beneath the range, deep pull-out drawers create ample storage for the entertainer who cooks for her guests. Two cross corner pantries each complete with the latest storage technologies, make finding larder goods simple.

The Palladian Panache kitchen exudes a casual yet refined air that reflects a bit of Old World Spanish style with contemporary creature comfort appeal. Avid travelers and lovers of entertaining feel at home in a space that adds a little panache to a hard-working and illustrious kitchen.

Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry, a 40 year-old family-run company, stands for quality workmanship well within your reach.
