Introducing Island Airs
– Island décor isn’t just for second homes anymore –

Schaefferstown, PA – A growing trend in interior design for primary residences is rooms inspired by vacation spots, in particular, island decor. Pennsylvania custom cabinetmakers, Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry, have brought the spirit of the isles home, with their latest kitchen inspiration, Island Airs. Details like louvered doors, a lime green stain, “Fennel Frost”, and richly finished Maple and Cherry wood, set off by colorful fabrics and accents make up the kitchen, creating a laid-back, vacation-like space.

Vince Achey, vice president of Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry, said, “Rarely do people get away more than a few times per year. The majority of our time is spent in our primary residences with family and friends. It makes perfect sense to bring things we love about vacation into our homes – beautiful colors and relaxed, casual styles. We chose the ‘island’ theme for this kitchen because we’ve noticed it popping up in other rooms in the home. Why not the kitchen?”

To achieve Island Airs Plain & Fancy chose one of its latest finishes, “Fennel Frost”, a sunny, warm-weather color, for the armoire and cooktop island. The island-green finish brightens the wall cabinetry shown in two woods and two finishes. Cherry in Cocoa on the left, and Walnut in Fireside on the right, both topped by honed Cortone-colored limestone countertops. A stainless sink and faucet accent the Cherry cabinetry, while the Walnut houses Miele’s new coffee system, completed by a custom drawer to store beans, cups and saucers.

In keeping with the island theme, Plain & Fancy added a tall freestanding armoire with rattan panels, inset into beaded Maple doors with ‘Gecko’ hardware. Another feature is plantation-style louvered doors, which front a floor-to-ceiling pantry for maximum storage and optimal organization.

Recognizing informal meals are generally the way people gather today, the kitchen incorporates two, side-by-side islands topped with Wenge wooden countertops by Craft-Art: A cooktop island in Maple, and a “Prep & Serve” island in Walnut with a Fireside-stain.

The entire Island Airs kitchen sits on a floor of reclaimed Jerusalem limestone.

Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry, a thirty-five year old family-run company, stands for quality workmanship well within your reach.  Each cabinet is built with the homeowner’s choice of two time-tested methods: framed, mortise and tenon construction with dovetail drawers or full access (frameless) dowel construction, called Medley, also with dovetail drawers.

Plain & Fancy’s "Safarience with a Glimmer of Shimmer

Schaefferstown, PA – The latest custom cabinetry inspiration from Plain & Fancy marries two current design trends, Safarience and Glimmer of Shimmer. The Safarience trend is known for its rich textures, animal prints and overall rustic appeal. Glimmer of Shimmer reveals shine and sparkle naturally found in metal and glass. The combination of Safarience and Glimmer of Shimmer achieves seamless transitional style, offering a softer side to modern.

Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry’s Safarience with a Glimmer of Shimmer kitchen assumes this transitional style with grace. The new “Transition” door style, created in celebration of these combined trends, brings a simple modern look to life. The bold grain of the Walnut cabinetry, accentuated by the rich Cocoa finish, mimics animal prints, while Safari-themed dishware is strategically placed throughout the kitchen.

“Safarience and Glimmer of Shimmer combine to form a trend that is cool and warm, modern and traditional. The beauty of transitional design is that it brings a fresh twist to something familiar,” says George (Butch) Achey, president of Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry. “The kitchen remains comfortable and inviting, but without sacrificing design aesthetics.”

The Safarience trend evokes an appreciation for nature and authentic African design elements that have a story to tell, integrating a sense of worldliness into the kitchen. The illustrious Glimmer of Shimmer trend is evident in the kitchen’s aluminum-framed cabinets, stainless sink and brushed nickel hardware. The rich Walnut wood, shimmery glass subway backsplash and clean lines of the “Transition” door combine to form an inviting insight into contemporary, where Safarience and Glimmer of Shimmer can truly exist effortlessly and harmoniously.
