-Introducing Modern Chinoiserie-
Schaefferstown, PA – Most trends only enjoy a short-lived season, while some styles may last an entire generation. But the inspiration for the latest custom cabinetry from Plain & Fancy draws from two of the most timeless and emblematic design cultures ever to grace history. With Modern Chinoiserie, the traditional Eastern-inspired Chinese Chippendale design emerges as a contemporary take on modern living.
Modern Chinoiserie, as the name suggests, couples time-honored Chinese Chippendale details with modern finishes to create a fresh version of a classically-inspired tradition. The exploration of these ageless design movements showcases Plain & Fancy’s versatility and spotlights the introduction of a new “Silver Veil” finish. The “Silver Veil” finish was created with an unconventional finishing technique, using black veiling to accomplish an antiquated appearance on a rather modern color. The space introduces a new Octagon door which incorporates classic Chinese Chippendale form in the eight sided mullion. Both were created exclusively for the Modern Chinoiserie kitchen.
In addition, this classic kitchen also demonstrates Plain & Fancy’s truly custom capabilities, offering state-of-the-art storage solutions, under cabinet lighting and the finest German hardware.
The kitchen presents a utensil divider within a full-extension pull-out, just above a deep drawer featuring a peg system plate and bowl organizer. Also, conveniently located on either side of the range, is a professional grade oil and spice rack pull-out, durable enough to stow the heaviest cooking oil bottles. The island encompasses two deep drawers with boundless space to store and organize pots and pans, while the other side showcases open shelving for Asian-inspired serving pieces and cookbooks. The custom Bombay-inspired hood brings yet another Eastern flavor into the mix.
“Modern Chinoiserie offers a departure from the standard way of exhibiting classic design,” says George (Butch) Achey, president of Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry. “Its melds traditional thought with fresh, contemporary details as well as taking into account the needs of the homeowner to create a multi-functional living space.”

Schaefferstown, PA – The latest custom cabinetry inspiration from Plain & Fancy marries two current design trends, Safarience and Glimmer of Shimmer. The Safarience trend is known for its rich textures, animal prints and overall rustic appeal. Glimmer of Shimmer reveals shine and sparkle naturally found in metal and glass. The combination of Safarience and Glimmer of Shimmer achieves seamless transitional style, offering a softer side to modern.
Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry’s Safarience with a Glimmer of Shimmer kitchen assumes this transitional style with grace. The new “Transition” door style, created in celebration of these combined trends, brings a simple modern look to life. The bold grain of the Walnut cabinetry, accentuated by the rich Cocoa finish, mimics animal prints, while Safari-themed dishware is strategically placed throughout the kitchen.
“Safarience and Glimmer of Shimmer combine to form a trend that is cool and warm, modern and traditional. The beauty of transitional design is that it brings a fresh twist to something familiar,” says George (Butch) Achey, president of Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry. “The kitchen remains comfortable and inviting, but without sacrificing design aesthetics.”
The Safarience trend evokes an appreciation for nature and authentic African design elements that have a story to tell, integrating a sense of worldliness into the kitchen. The illustrious Glimmer of Shimmer trend is evident in the kitchen’s aluminum-framed cabinets, stainless sink and brushed nickel hardware. The rich Walnut wood, shimmery glass subway backsplash and clean lines of the “Transition” door combine to form an inviting insight into contemporary, where Safarience and Glimmer of Shimmer can truly exist effortlessly and harmoniously.
