Environmental Stewardship

Caring, beyond custom cabinetry.

Crafting the finest custom cabinetry for people who want a kitchen that’s a one and only has always been at the heart of Plain & Fancy. But since the beginning, the Plain & Fancy heart has embraced much more than cabinetmaking.

John and Loretta Achey started Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry as a family business back in 1968. And although we’ve grown to become one of America’s most sought after custom cabinetry brands, we’ve never outgrown the family values and caring that have made Plain & Fancy a special place to work and a responsible member of the community.

We’ve always considered our employees to be family and we care about them that way. Our community, the place we call home, has always been a focal point of our caring and giving back. In our industry, we’ve always recognized that good things come from both giving and receiving. And living in some of the most beautiful country in America, our concern and caring for the earth almost goes without saying.

Caring for our People

When you truly think of your employees as family, treating them right comes naturally. A clean, safe working environment is a given. Our caring goes well beyond, to ensure that their overall work experience is healthy and well balanced. We offer flexible work hours so people can participate in their families’ lives. So parents can coach sports teams and guide in other areas. So they can attend school events. So they can spend quality time together. After all, while work is a rewarding part of living, it’s not the only part.

Caring for our Community

Giving back has always been a Plain & Fancy family value. It’s just part of coming from humble beginnings. That’s why we support Eastern Lebanon County education and athletic programs, as well as local religious and other organizations. Our architectural nature drives us to support local historical societies and places of cultural importance such as Colonial Williamsburg. We even combine waste management with caring by giving our sawdust to our farming neighbors for livestock bedding. Caring for our community is second nature to us because we live here, too. Always have.

Caring for our Industry

As a 40-year member of our industry "family," we know the importance of contributing to the common good. As an active member of the Board of Virginia Tech’s Kitchen and Bath design education program we’re helping to shape the future. We support continuing education, such as “Kitchen & Bath Design News” magazine design seminars by industry experts like Ellen Cheever. But perhaps the most important form our caring takes is in how we treat our dealers, suppliers, vendors and, of course, the people who have chosen Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry for their homes.

Caring for our Earth

Living and working in beautiful, bountiful Pennsylvania Dutch Country gives us special reason to care for the earth. Reason to employ state-of-the-art environmental protection practices in air quality, waste management, plant water recycling, automated wood cutting to reduce waste, and more. Sharing the earth with everyone gave us reason to join forces with our industry’s environmental stewardship leader, the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA).

To demonstrate our fervent commitment to environmental responsibility, Plain & Fancy became a Certified Participant in the KCMA’s Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP), which was established to encourage industry policies and practices that benefit the environment and society. We’re proud to join more than 60 other companies that have made the commitment to care for the environment on the most comprehensive scale in our industry.
